The Perfect Summer Veggie:
Red Amaranthus thrives in warm weather, making summer (December – May) the ideal planting season. You can choose to directly sow the seeds in your garden bed or opt for transplanting pre-grown seedlings.
Planting Guide For Amaranthus Seedlings – Red
For transplanting, use 20-25 day old seedlings. Select a sunny location in your garden with good drainage. Prepare the soil by thoroughly plowing the land and creating raised beds approximately 20cm wide and 10-15cm high. Ensure a 10cm gap between each bed. Conduct a soil test to determine the appropriate amount of lime/dolomite for your specific needs. After 5-10 days, incorporate dried, powdered organic manure (150-200kg/cent) and mix it well with the soil to ensure there are no clumps.
Before sowing seeds, lightly fumigate the beds with a fine water spray. If directly sowing, mix the seeds with 3-4 parts sand and sow them in a shallow channel (around 2cm deep) made in the center of the prepared bed. Cover the seeds with topsoil.
For transplanting, space the seedlings 10cm apart on the prepared beds, maintaining a 30cm gap between rows.
Water and Nourishment:
Regular watering is crucial for healthy Red Amaranthus growth. During dry weather, aim to water the topsoil daily. To promote optimal growth, begin fertilizing the plants. If directly sown, apply fertilizer 10-15 days after the seedlings emerge. For transplanted seedlings, start fertilizing 5 days after planting.
Keeping Your Plants Healthy:
Red Amaranthus can be susceptible to leaf webber and leaf-eating caterpillars. Be observant and take appropriate measures to control these pests if necessary.
By following these simple steps and using BuynFarm’s high-quality Red Amaranthus seedlings, you can cultivate a thriving crop of this delicious and nutritious vegetable in your summer garden!
