Planting Made Easy:

Cabbage thrives in cool weather, with the ideal planting season running from September-October to April. Whether you’re using grow bags or planting directly in an open field, ensure cool weather conditions for optimal growth. We recommend transplanting 25-30 day old seedlings for a successful start.

Preparing Your Garden for Success:

Open Field Planting:

• Choose a location with good drainage and sunlight.
• Plow the soil and create raised beds: 90cm width, 10-15cm height, with 50cm space between beds.
• Conduct a soil test to determine lime/dolomite needs.
• After 5-6 days, add 50-100kg of organic manure per cent and mix well.
• Consider foliar applications (spraying leaves):
  • 0.3% magnesium sulfate
  • 0.3% calcium boron
  • Apply 1-2 times within 15 days between applications.

Grow Bag Planting:

• Prepare a potting mix with:
  • Garden soil
  • Washed coir pith
  • Vermicompost
  • Powdered neem cake
  • Bonemeal
• Adjust the potting mix pH with lime if needed.
• Fill grow bags ¾ of the way with the prepared mix.

Unlocking Higher Yields:

For those seeking maximized yields in open fields, we recommend utilizing precision farming techniques. This involves laying drip lines on the prepared beds and covering them with plastic mulch (1.2-meter width). Plant your cabbage seedlings in two rows, ensuring 60cm of space between rows and 50cm between plants within each row.

Watering and Fertilization:

Regular watering is crucial for healthy cabbage growth. The frequency will depend on your local weather conditions, but as a general guideline, aim to provide 1.0-1.5 liters of water per plant per day. Start fertigation using a recommended schedule from the 3rd day after planting to ensure your cabbages receive the optimal nutrients for thriving growth.
