How to Plant Your Cauliflower Seedlings?

Similar to cabbage, cauliflower thrives in cool weather. The ideal planting window falls between September-October and April. You can choose to cultivate your cauliflower in grow bags or directly in an open field, ensuring cool weather conditions for optimal growth. We recommend transplanting 25-30 day old seedlings for a successful start.

Preparing Your Growing Space:

For open field planting, select a well-drained area with good sunlight access. Prepare the soil by plowing and creating raised beds that promote good drainage (90cm width, 10-15cm height, with 50cm space between beds). Conduct a soil test to determine the appropriate amount of lime/dolomite for your specific needs. After 5-6 days, enrich the soil with organic manure (50-100kg/cent) and mix thoroughly. To promote healthy growth, consider foliar applications of 0.3% magnesium sulfate and calcium boron (0.3%) with 1-2 sprays at 15-day intervals.

When Planting in Grow Bags:

For planting in grow bags, prepare a potting mix by combining garden soil, washed coir pith, vermicompost, powdered neem cake, and bonemeal. Adjust the mixture’s pH level by adding lime if necessary. Fill the grow bags ¾ of the way with the prepared mix.

Maximizing Your Cauliflower Harvest:

For open-field cultivation, we recommend utilizing precision farming techniques to achieve maximized yields. This involves laying drip lines on the prepared beds and covering them with plastic mulch (1.2-meter width). Plant your cauliflower seedlings in two rows, ensuring 60cm of space between rows and 50cm between plants within each row.

Watering and Nourishment:

Regular watering is crucial for healthy cauliflower growth. The frequency will depend on your local weather conditions, but as a general guideline, aim to provide 1.0-1.5 liters of water per plant per day. Start fertigation using a recommended schedule from the 3rd day after planting to ensure your cauliflower receives the optimal nutrients for thriving growth.
