Grow Delicious Watermelons with Our High-Quality Seedlings!
Plant your taste for summer with our premium watermelon seedlings! We have two exciting hybrid varieties to choose from: Shakkar Plus and Mukasa. Each tray bursts with 100 healthy, ready-to-transplant seedlings that will transform your garden into a watermelon wonderland!
First things first! Planting watermelons thrives in warm weather, so the ideal window falls between September/October and April/May. To get started on your juicy adventure, here’s a basic guide!
Land Preparation:
- Raised Beds: Create raised beds in your open field by digging the soil. Make sure the beds are 80-90 cm wide and 10-15 cm tall. Leave 50 cm of space between each bed.
- Soil Adjustment: Conduct a soil test to determine the appropriate amount of lime or dolomite needed to achieve the optimal pH level for watermelon growth.
- Enriching the Soil: After 6 days of adding lime/dolomite, incorporate 50-100 kg of organic manure per 100 square meters (cent) of land and mix it thoroughly with the soil.
Planting:
- Seedling Age: After 15-20 days of germination (when they have 2-4 leaves), your watermelon seedlings are ready to be transplanted directly into the prepared beds.
- Spacing: Plant the seedlings in a single row on the beds, maintaining a space of 50 cm between each plant.
Aftercare:
- Watering: During dry weather, provide water using a sprayer or drip irrigation system at a rate of 1-1.5 liters per plant per day.
- Fertilization: Follow a recommended fertilizer schedule and apply fertilizers 3 days after planting.
- Pest & Disease Control: Watch for common watermelon problems like leaf-eating beetles, leaf miners, fruit flies, mites, powdery mildew, and viruses. Take appropriate control measures if necessary.
Precision Farming Tip:
For even higher yields, consider implementing precision farming techniques in your watermelon cultivation.
